Helmet saves cyclist, 88, from major injury

An 88-year-old Green Valley bicyclist was taken to Banner University Medical Center with minor injuries after being struck by a car around 9 a.m. today.

The man’s helmet, which cracked during the collision on West Esperanza Boulevard, saved him from major trauma, Green Valley Fire District spokesman L.T. Pratt said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
