Thanks to a $15,000 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, the Green Valley Fire District now has an automated CPR system.
The AutoPulse Resuscitation System squeezes the patient’s entire chest to improve blood flow to the heart and brain, GVFD spokesman L.T. Pratt said. The system automatically sizes to the patient.
The system allows rescuers to continue providing CPR as they go down steep stairs, around sharp corners or are traveling in a cramped elevator, Pratt said.
Studies have shown the system reduces the number of times paramedics have to stop giving compressions by more than 85 percent, he said.
