The Continental Elementary School District’s governing board voted 5-0 Monday night to allow the Green Valley Fire District to annex its property. The GVFD has provided service to the school district for years under an intergovernmental agreement, but the GVFD needed to annex the land prior to trying to annexing other properties in the Madera Highlands area, said Joey Kosiorowshi, GVFD operations chief. State laws prevent the fire district from creating “islands” within the district, he said.
There won’t be tax implications because school districts are exempt from property taxes,k Kosiorowski said.
