Green Valley Firefighters’ 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off broke attendance and fundraising records this year.
The September 30th event, which spends proceeds to adopt needy families at the holidays, raised $4,500 and sold out of tickets. It was standing room only with an estimated 350 guests in Quail Creek Clubhouse’s ballroom, said coordinator and Green Valley firefighter Amy Shultz.
The GVFD retirees group took first place for the judges’ Best Chili Award, followed by Valley Emergency Communication Center staffers, and A-Shift headed by GVFD firefighter Mark Savalle.
In the People’s Choice Awards, Best Tasting went to Tubac Fire District and Best Decorated Booth, to Helmet Peak Fire for “Beetlejuice.”
The Green Valley Firefighters partner with Arizona Family Restaurant on Oct. 19, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the Tips for Tots program, where GVFD staff and firefighters serve meals, with all tips benefiting the Adopt-A-Family program.
