Brush fire near hospital quickly extinguished

A small brush fire north of the Green Valley Hospital was quickly squashed by the Green Valley Fire District on Thursday afternoon.
The fire, which burned a quarter-acre around 4:30, was endangering a Southwest Gas valving site around kilometer post 59 on the east Frontage Road. However, it was extinguished without damaging any property. The cause is not known, according to the GVFD.

The GVFD says vegetation in the area is already dry and warmer-than-usual temperatures could cause an early start to the fire season. The fire district is cautioning the public to use caution when disposing of hot embers, cigarette butts or while using power tools near dry vegetation.
